Capture an Event

Project details

As spatial designers we are perpetually concerned with at least four dimensions (often far, far more).  The complex coordination of activities within a space over time are central issues within the design process.  Designers must continue to develop effect means of both observing and representing time and space in their visualizations.

For this exercise students selected a simple action in a simple space (such as walking down stairs).  By taking multiple pictures of the action as it progresses and overlaying the graphics in Photoshop you will compress time into a singular image, celebrating both the action and its engagement in space and time.

The developed instruction for this can be found here:

contribution

This was a project that I designed myself and developed the instruction for. This both engages the software technologies that design students will have to learn in order to be successful while also encouraging more critical analysis of events and the way the human body occupies space during activities, which is especially critical in spatial design.
