The table is an experiment that is designed to ask questions about the dynamics of material and texture. The plywood, a very consistent and homogenous product texturally, is a very simple assembly of parts and expresses itself in the unique visual textures of the wood. The grass, a very inconsistent and heterogeneous product, punctuates both materials by pushing the textural differences and invites inquiry into the touch of the grass and the plywood.
The plywood, which is very common in the furniture, takes on a new dimension when juxtaposed with the grass. The uncommon ‘material’ in the piece adds clarity to the typical and also enhances how people engage the piece.
